Mason Jars for bottling wine

Just wondering if mason jars would work to bottle wine. I have access to a bunch of either quart or pint size mason jars so if I could use them that would be great, if not I guess i will buy some wine bottles. Thanks guys.

Don’t see a huge problem there. Make sure the lids are still in good shape and properly sanitized.

One issue would be the clear glass. Keep them in their box and out of direct light.

Also, try not to leave too much head space. That is the good thing about a tapered neck in a wine bottle. Leaves very little room for air.

Once open the surface area exposed to air will be fairly wide and the wine will open up (oxidize) fairly rapidly.

If there is any major sedimentation I’m not sure how easy decanting would be from a jar compared to a bottle.
