Innkeeper Ale and trub

Man I wish I had asked sooner! I primed then filled my mini, figuring if it’s a little sweeter than what the final will be no big deal. I guess it’s really just like a big ass bottle with a tap. Trying tonight to see how it carbed up

To clarify, you primed meaning you added sugar?

Yes, I bought a can of fast prime to test it out.

But I already used one 8g cartridge on it and stuck it in the fridge

The fast prime cans are for 5 gallons I see. Your growler Ukeg is 1/2 gallon I’m guessing. How did you figure the amount needed from the can?

Oo uh here’s where the newb part comes in. I didn’t calculate priming sugar or check my full batch size lol. Will have to add up bottles/sizes

Thanks! I’m usually pretty good about those things. My final volume seemed a little higher than usual but I’m usually about 48 oz short. May be just fine :crossed_fingers:

So… you added TO the full bucket, THEN racked off into the mini and some bottles? Then the worry goes down… BUT, bottle bombs make be happening in a few weeks.
The mini keg could use some time out of the fridge for the yeast to consume the sugar and carbonate the keg…

Well, I racked as normal into a bucket with the fast prime already in it. Gave some very gentle stirs and then bottled. My pre bottle volume was higher than usual so I think those will be ok, maybe a bit undercarbed as my abv was at least 2% below the recipe’s FG.

I did, however, rack the primed beer into the mini keg then carbonated. Actually carbonated just now, as I hadn’t screwed in the cylinder tight enough. Man. So many factors haha!

I believe you’ll have beer! Even the lower ABV brew will carb nicely, give it just a bit longer… I’ll look forward to picts of your brew!

Thanks! Either way it’s still beer right? Haha.

Well, it is beer! A day shy of two weeks out of the uKeg go. Tasty, a bit more bitter than I expected but I think that will mellow out in the bottle. I like it, for as much as I screwed up while brewing it’s pretty forgiving.

You didn’t screw nuttin’ up… you are learning by doing… no book can teach you what you want to taste… Well done!

Agreed if it’s drinkable you did ok. It’s like anything else we learn as we go.

Thanks y’all! I’m pretty happy with the taste, one of my better efforts. All grain really does make a difference.
