Adjuncts in Bru'n Water

Hello Everyone,

I’m making an Oatmeal Stout next month and am tinkering with water profiles in Bru’n Water. Could someone tell me:

  1. Would the Black Balanced profile be the best option for this style?

  2. How would the flaked oats in this recipe be calculated on the Mash Acidification page? I noticed that there is no option for adjuncts in the Grain Type column - would they simply be left out of the equation?

You’d need to make the call on the profile based on the recipe - my Oatmeal Stout has about 70 IBUs for instance. And I enter adjuncts as base grain to make sure the SRM is correct, but I think you could leave oatmeal out with no issues since it’s basically white.

Thanks, Shadetree. Would bitterness be estimated strictly by IBUs or by the IBU/SG ratio?

Thanks!
