Wyeast 1272 almost went volcanic

Making a bear republic racer 5 ipa clone ( extract). I used the recommended wyeast 1272 American Ale 2 and made a 1000ml starter. Trying to ferment @ 68 deg, but is hit 72 deg.
Day 2 and I get a call at work from home ( " Hon, your beer is about to go all over the floor, its coming out of the bubbling thingy") So I have to walk my wife through sanatizing my blow off tube and installing it, lol.

Anyone else almost go volcanic with the 1272?

MaSheriff

Not when fermenting it at 64F…

yea about any yeast will do that at 72

You got that right.
I brewed a blonde ale 1/1/12 with this yeast and my brew room is in the low 60s right now. I had less than two inches of foam. It went from 1.051 to 1.012.

Turning the heat down even more, it is currently at 70 deg. Room temp 67.

Masheriff

yeah, I made a starter with the 1272 and it went completely insane at about 66 in my CDA.

Fermenting @ 68 deg. now. Took off the blow off hose and put a 3 piece airlock back on.

Bottled this yesterday and found it dropped to 1.009.
