Why do people say one step is not a cleaner? It says it is a cleaner. I used it once and it seemed to clean my carboy. So what the heck is it? All the reviews on this site say it is a sanitizer, which i have heard people say it is not…WTF!!!
One-step is a cleanser. The package says CLEANSER right on it. I think the confusion comes in because it’s called ONE-STEP which suggests that you could clean and sanitize in ONE-STEP. I read somewhere that getting the credentials to call your product a “SANITIZER” is loaded with red tape and that it’s very possible that ONE-STEP is actually a cleanser and a sanitizer but they can’t put SANITIZER on the label because they have not met some stringent guideline or whatever. Bottom line, package says CLEANSER and it’s a good cleanser so use it and then follow it up with Iodophor or preferably Starsan.
Maybe it has to do with the fact that the one-step kills bacteria, mold, etc but it’s not actually removed the same way that hand sanitizer doesn’t remove “germs”, it just kills them.
