Which British Yeast Strain?

I’m brewing a porter and debating whether to use the Wyeast 1098 (British Ale) or 1099 (Whitbread).

From what I’ve read these are both Whitbread strains, with the 1098 being drier, cleaner, and having higher attenuation.

I think I’d like the fruity character of the 1099 better in a porter. Anyone have experience with these strains?

I’m a big fan of the 1098, but I don’t think you can go wrong with either yeast.

+1…I’d probably lean towards the 1099, but really, either one would be excellent.

Cool thanks - I’m leaning 1099 right now. I’ll post some thoughts when I’m done.
