Where to buy 5 gallon ball lock kegs

There are so many vendors out there to buy 5 gallon ball lock kegs. Anyone have good luck with any where specific?

Haven’t purchased kegs from a retailer for quite some time, but always had good luck with cornykeg.com.

I bought a couple from kegconnection.com. Good experience overall. They were used, arrived clean with a spare set of new o-rings. Shipping is flat rate 7.95.
Just picked up another off Craigslist really cheap.

I haven’t had to buy online but I would suggest trying to avoid it just to avoid shipping on something that big. Try and find something local, either craigslist or LHBS.

+1, or your local metal scrapyard

I have a couple from a scrapyard. $25 ea., took some extensive cleaning, but solid kegs.

Check for cracked welds, dents around the opening, basically any structural damage.

12 yrs ago I bought 3 for $15 total, sold them 2 yrs later for $30. I haven’t seen them under $45 ea. lately.

Adventures in Homebrewing is having a keg sale. I’ve bought several of their four-packs and the kegs are in pretty good shape for used kegs.

The prices are right given the current market:
4 ball lock w/ PRV $180
4 ball lock w/o PRV $140
4 pin lock $125.97
Shipping to NC was about $20, so that made a delivered cost of $50-$36.50 each

I usually get mine from Morebeer. Sadly they are currently out of stock, but they do qualify for the free shipping program. Given that free shipping kicks in if you spend $59+ and the kegs are $59 it is a pretty good deal.

I’ve bought a couple new kegs recently. I like new, but I’ve had issues with removing the posts on the new kegs. Something must be up with the manufacturer, because it’ll let me unthread it for a turn, then it stops, like the threading gets off. I’ve had to send 2 kegs back for replacements. Weirdness.
I think the main thing I really like about getting new kegs, though, is that they’ll seal perfectly. My used kegs, at times, take a lot of adjusting to get them to seal, which is annoying. I miss having the 2 rubber handles though.

That’s a pretty solid deal. I had gotten some two packs from Beverage Elements

for about the same price, but unfortunately they don’t have those anymore. Also had a great customer service experience with them when one of the kegs was obviously damaged. I sent them an e-mail with a photo of the problem and they responded first thing the next morning that they would send me a new keg and I could keep the current one.

I don’t think you will regret it. I bought another 4 pack too. Know this: These kegs are not reconditioned. You’ll have to replace all the o-rings and clean them super-well. Hot PBW soak will loosen the old syrup. A sturdy toilet brush (new, of course) will be helpful. Enjoy.

This is why I ruled this vendor out when I was in the market for some kegs late last year. I’d rather pay a little more to have pre-cleaned kegs, although I still always perform my normal cleaning procedure upon receipt anyway. I don’t expect new o-rings.

I’ve bought from McEver Distributors in the past. Usually a pretty good price. I’m not sure what they have in stock right now. I think last time they had ball locks for $30 or $40, depending on the shape they were in.
