What The Hell is This?

Let me preface this question by noting that I have been EXTREMELY careful about sanitizing.

So what are those white rope-like strands floating in my 115th dream IPA?

Looks like some gunk clinging to the glass carboy. Probably just yeast and debris

let it finish fermenting. give it some time after that. Then give it a smell and taste

It’s done fermenting and is now conditioning in a secondary. I tasted it while racking and it tasted
Great.

So this isn’t a sign of contamination?

Not necessarily. Yeast can do a bunch of weird looking stuff.

Unless it taste like vomit, vinegar, sour, or mold. I wouldn’t worry about it

Whew! Had me worried.

If it tasted great, it’s good. Don’t go by looks.

Don’t do like I did and dump the whole thing. Save some for marinates!

When I first saw the title, I thought, “What the helles is this?”

My bad!

It is just yeast clinging to the sides and running down. With better bottles there is a series of ridges that collect this fine yeast powder and lets it run down.

Cloudy lookin MF’er… How’s she look now?

Mine looks much darker in secondary… I think we have the same kit going at the same time, so I’m being especially nosy about your posts (hope you don’t mind). So far, I’ve done a three week primary and I’m in the second week of secondary. I’m debating bottling early just to age/carbonate at the same time… when do you plan on bottling, out of curiosity?

it almost looks like its on the outside

I also did three weeks in a primary before I hit my FG. I’m in week two of a secondary. I may keg it at the end of the week, but I’d like the beer to clear a little more. As you noted, it’s a bit cloudy.

I’m considering cold crashing to help the yeast flocculate and speed up the clearing process. We shall see.

Still pretty cloudy. May have to cold crash this beyotch.

Gelatin does a great job.

If you’re vegan you can use Biofine clear.

At what point do you add gelatin? Just before kegging?

Or when racking into secondary. I’ve read that if you want it to capture the chill haze, it need to be cold for the chill haze to actually form.
