I use a clothesline setup: the hops grow up a rope for about 5 feet, then basically parallel to the ground for another 15 feet.
My lateral bines are hanging down to the ground now. Should I drape them back over the line, train them along the line, or leave them hanging?
I generally help them by wrapping them along the lateral line. Growing them this way does cause them to branch out more.

I train mine too; but, last year for some reason I always broke the bines while wrapping around the wire. Not good
I’ve broken a couple this year too. You really want to train them while they are still very young. When they break this just makes the rest of the plant bush out though.
