Hi, I just made my first mead. The FW reading however look … well, a negative value i would say.
In which case I ended up with already 18%. I checked it with plain water, the it reads zero, so that part looks okay.
Can someone explain/tell a bit more on the reading i got ?? I don’t think it failed, it does not taste bad, but clearly needs aging.

Honey is very fermentable… Nothing left behind, well almost nothing… except alcohol… which in turn “thins out” the water causing the hydrometer to float up higher…

Haha. I had to go look at my hydrometer to confirm. Because of my Tilt I haven’t used it in over a year.
