St. Paul/Minneapolis

Attending a wedding in the twin cities in April, where are the must hit beer spots? I always look up the local breweries when I travel, but I am only going to be there for the long weekend. Need help weeding out the duds!!

Cheers!!

Booked a hotel in St. Paul on market street if that will help narrow down the possibilities.

Town Hall.

Summit brewing co. St. Paul. Tap room is open Fridays from 3-8. They usually have a firkin of something different and a food truck outside. Always a good time! If you are flying in, they are only a few miles from the airport.

I think you need to reserve for Surley and it might be too late to book but that would be the place to go IMO. Summit is great as well. There are also several smaller scale places that would be neat to attend.

What part of town are you going to be in? You could get anywhere pretty quickly with a car but a location could add a few more suggestions.

+1 on the food truck great food

Harriet tap room.
Town hall tap (get the heidleburger)

Barley John’s.

Out of the way. Good food and good beer.

Unfortunately in April the patio will not be covered with hops.

Sorry shizzy but I’m not much a fan of Harriet. Not bad, but not my first choice. And to GarretD, good call on Steel Toe! There IPA is killer!!! I love that thing and pretty good selection of other beers too. I think that place will be getting more and more popular.

MSP is really a “kinda” unknown beer mecca, it seems we are kinda hiding in the middle of the country and no one has picked up on our awesome beer scene.
There is a large number of awesome breweries, awesome brew and beer pubs, & awesome homebrew stores.
There really are too many to list, with out an itinerary.
Give us your time frame, and the general area you will be in and we will give you more options than you will be able to make it to, guaranteed.

Edit: there are at least 5 homebrew stores, 12 breweries, and 10 brew pubs, within 20 miles of the MSP airport.

My family is full of beer snobs. When I moved to the cities from Seattle, they all thought I was stuck in beer hell until they visited. They had a Summit and made a comment (I love Summit, but they thought it was a bit pedestrian), so I gave them Surly Furious until they shut up.

Anyway, I’m a St. Paul guy, so I’ll say Great Waters (brewpub downtown with some nice taps and good food), The Happy Gnome (deep deep beer menu, and the food has gotten better), Blue Door pub (good beer, not particularly special taps, but the burgers are can’t miss). These aren’t breweries, just little pubs/restaurants with good stuff.

I’ll second everything that’s been said here, especially the Republic and Indeed Brewing.

There’s also the Dangerous Man tap room, but it’s pretty popular and hard to get into.

But not to be missed, if a phenomenal beer selection coupled with great food is what you’re after, is the Happy Gnome in Saint Paul. Bizarre name, yeah, but a four-page tap list.

Somebody mentioned Great Waters, that’s a great place, especially for being righ upstairs from the Artist’s Quarter Jazz Club. I mean, if jazz is your thing. It is mine.

Where ever you end up, you won’t be disappointed by the selection of local brews. Pound a couple down and have fun.

Awesome…thanks for the heads up all!! Not much better than a new town and tasty beers.
