Grabbed a couple of 24 oz bombers of this last night, downed one. Very tasty. It’s wet hopped with Centennial and Cascade. It’s got a dry, clean taste for being as dark as it is. I think it must have some kind of Cara-red or something - doesn’t taste like it has much regular caramel malt. It’s bittered just right, hoppy but not ridiculously so, and it does seem to have a different taste than an ordinary Cent/Cascade ale would. Missed the Southern Hemi version a while back with Motueka and Southern Cross - I think that one is fresh hopped, but not wet hopped. I’d say grab some if you see it - probably won’t be around long.
I grabbed some myself just a week after it left the brewery. It was OK, but definitely lacking the hop character I get in their IPAs. They’re marketing the beer off the use of fresh hops, why not use more of them?
Nice beer, regardless.
Yeah, it’s not crazy hoppy. Maybe they don’t want it to be too much like Celebration, which is out right now as well.
