LOML has graciously allowed me to purchase a temperature regulator for our underutilized chest freezer. I will probably make an attempt at lagering soon, but first I have a couple of questions.

Should I set the temperature to the same temp I want to beer to ferment at? Will the beer and the chest freezer stay in equilibrium?

How many degrees of variance should I allow the regulator? Does the beer have enough thermal mass to make a 3 degree swing acceptable?
