Newbie here. Do I have to sanitize a wort chiller before using? I’ve been doing it but I’m thinkin since it’s going into boiling beer any bugs would be slayed. Thanks Brew Masters
Depends on what kind. If you have an immersion chiller keep it clean and dunk it in the boil 15 min before flame out and the boiling wort will sanitize it. For a counter flow I sanitize mine with no-rinse sanitizer then let some of the boiling hot wort flow through before turning on the water.
I’ve only used a regular immersion chiller. I do like HD4Mark said. keep it clean & drop in last 15-20 minutes of boil. there had been times I sampled too much & forgot to drop in the boil & had to sanitize it.
