I was excited to find a bomber of this at the liquor store, apparently the only bottle they had received. Stashed it in the fridge for a week, waiting for the right occasion to savor this. Boy was I disappointed!
Rogue went big on this, but there’s no real complexity. Tastes almost exactly like the $2 bombers of double IPA Trader Joe’s sells (Boatswain?). Caramel sweet with a plain hops bitterness. Thick, syrupy mouthfeel, not great head retention. The only thing that sets this apart is ABV, and if that’s all you’re after, you’ll get a bigger bang for your buck off malt liquor.
Rogue can, has, and does do better. Thankfully, this has only been brewed once.
