Questions about adding extra LME

Hey all,

It’s been awhile since I’ve brewed a batch, just getting back into it again. I’m an extract brewer and I ordered another Caribou slobber kit, as it came out very good last time. I was curious as I was hoping to up the alcohol content of it I was going to add about 3 more lbs of LME to the wort. My question is when is the best time to do this in the boil to not affect the flavor of the beer to much. I’m aiming for it to stay more on the malty/ dense side, so when is the best time to add the extra LME? Any and all suggestions are much appreciated, Thanks.

Adding it at the end of the boil (final 10 to 15 minutes) will have the least impact on your hop utilization.

Adding a lb of sugar will increase the gravity by 7 points, which is approx. 1%. I wouldn’t go with LME since it doesn’t ferment all the way out and you’ll wind up with malty beer. I’ve found that boosting ABV is easier with regular sugar.
