Pressure reading for new/full 5lb co2 tank

Picked up my new tank, full, yesterday. put the regulator on it and it barely registered above the “red” time-to-get-more area. Approx 550psi. Is that right??

cheers.

Depends on the temperature. At 40 degrees, yes.

psi readings on reg can be misleading…Temp set aside, the readings won’t get into “needs gas” area until last minute so to speak. Only accurate way to judge what in tank is by weight.

Weigh the tank when empty, again when you return with full tank. Then weigh every so often to judge your usage. Hope this helps!

Pressure is not a measure for C02 tank volume. As stated above we deal with weight. The “tare weight” or weight of the tank alone is stamped into the top of the tank. Weigh the whole thing and subtract that and it gives you a rough idea of what is left.

Pressure will only drop as the last bit of liquid changes to gas, and after that you will only have a few more beers to serve before it is apparent.

Best to buy a 20lb tank and have the 5lb as a backup.

Well, it starts to drop at about 10% full, so you have a little time. Enough to dispense a keg or two, at any rate.
