I’m on my first brew and instead of getting the siphon to suck it all out of primary into my secondary fermenter. I pumped the entire five gallons with the siphon into the secondary fermenter.
I know your not supposed to disturb the beer as it ferments, did i just screw my batch up?
thanks for any help
The 1st time I used my siphon, back on my 1st batch, I did the exact same thing.
No Harm, No Foul. Batch turned out fine.
Possibly, but not as bad as you think.
There’s a chance you added some O2 to the beer. This can cause they beer to go stale.
If the beer is done fermenting, like it should be before transferring, at the next chance you have go ahead and bottle it. Get it carbonated and drinkable before it goes South.
What beer is it? When did you start it?
When you bottle it, fill one soda bottle and squeeze the O2 out. Then screw the cap on. The bottle will expand as CO2 is formed. No wondering what is happening in the glass bottles.
Also, stir the beer (gently) every 10-12 bottles to keep the priming sugar mixed in.
thanks for the help guys.
I’m doing 2 batches; Irish Red Ale (came with the kit) and an India Pale Ale. I moved them both into secondary today and am keeping them at a steady 66/68.
Red Ale
Brewed on 12/28
Primary - 5 gallon bucket
Secondary - Glass Carboy 6.5 gall
IPA
Brewed on 12/29
Primary - 6.5 glass carboy
Seconday - 5 gallon bucket
I wouldn’t worry about it. Once it’s done with primary, beer is fairly forgiving of little mistakes.
