How does one make use of the Oak Cubes? Do they get thrown in during primary or secondary or whenever?
I believe they are put in the secondary most of the time. You can also add them to a keg if you have a draft system.
I have also read, but never tried boiling them to make an “oak tea” then adding a little of it at a time to the finished beer until reaching the desired flavor. The same could be done by soaking them in bourbon or other liquor for a while and using that.
Like adding any flavor go easy at first. Not enough will be much better drinking than too much.
I did find a decent article about adding spices and oak.
