NB Rebel Rye kit sans whiskey and oak

would you chnage anything with this kit of you were going to brew it without the whiskey or oak? I brewed it a few weeks back and came in under gravity by about 4 points. tastes a bit thin. I was wondering if I should dry hop it with a little something and just serve it as a porter and then try again with the whiskey, etc at another time. It tasted great and I’m a big fan of edmund fitzgerald, I know they are different portersm but both use cascade as a late addition. Just looking for some ideas on whether to just move forwand with the recipe as is or is this considered a decent stand alone porter…here’s the NB recipe so no one has to look it up:
MASH INGREDIENTS
– 7 lbs. Rahr 2-Row
– 2 lbs. Weyermann Rye Malt
– 2 lbs. German Dark Munich Malt
– 1 lbs. English Medium Crystal
– 0.5 lbs. English Black Malt
MASH SCHEDULE: SINGLE INFUSION
Sacch’ Rest: 151° F for 60 minutes
Mashout: 170° F for 10 minutes
BOIL ADDITIONS & TIMES
0.5 oz. Nugget (60 min)
1 oz. US Fuggle (30 min)
1.5 oz. Cascade (5 min)
SECONDARY FERMENTER ADDITIONS
2 oz. Medium-plus toast American oak cubes
16 oz. Rye Whiskey (not included in kit)
I used wyeast 1028.
