NB Kit Data

Does anyone know why NB doesn’t include basic info like IBU and ABV in the descriptions of the kits they sell?

simply put, because it all depends…brewing methods, alpha acid numbers, efficiency, fermentation temps, yeast used…the list goes on. They cant predict what everyones OG/FGs will be. But they can tell you what the kit will make with the provided grain @ 75% efficiency.

A rough estimate on the ABV is to take the OG and use the last 2 numbers as the ABV. 1.045 would give you a beer in the 4-4.5% ABV, Depending on the FG achieved.

As for the IBU’s. Like mentioned it depends on the AA% of the hops. Which can vary from farm to farm and season to season.

They also sometimes sub ingredients.

It would be nice for a rough estimate I agree but all the other varying attributes listed above from brewer to brewer would make it tough to do anything but a range. But on the bright side; here’s you’re chance to learn about how alcohol and IBUs are calculated (or at least to find a calculator online to do it for you) so you can plug the numbers before you buy the kits.
