Is it a bad idea

to try and move finished, conditioned beer from one sealed bottle to another for a competition?

I was hoping to enter 2 beers in a winter competition, but realized tonight I was over generous during the holidays with my APA 12oz bottles and I only have one left.

Could I transfer 12ozs from a 16oz bottle, cap the 12 and have competition worthy beer? Or I am just risking submitting 1 flat bottle and 1 carbed?

I am still going to enter my Winter Warmer, but just thought I would throw this idea out there.

yep. have done that my self a few time. just get both the beer and the empty as cold as you can.

Thanks, I guess I’ll give it a go.
Why not?

Try it with one extra and test that one before you submit it.

I would just ask the competition coordinator if they don’t mind one 12 and one 16 oz bottle.

Yes do so. Many homebrew comps. do except 16oz. bottles but it’s always good to check it out and confirm that they do so.

From the rules: Each entry will consist two (2) 10 to 12 ounce capped bottles (no exceptions) …

So, I am guessing that’d be a no.

I may skip the hassle and just enter the warmer. I would like to do the APA again anyway and there are always more contests.
