Hydro test

My 15# tank was up to be hydrotested and I received a call from the tech telling me that they cannot test the tank because it was manufactured in 1951. He said they can only test tanks manufactured after 1955. They want me to buy a new tank.

I bought the reconditioned tank three years ago from Adventure in Homebrewing. Has anyone else ever had this issue before or am I being sold a line of BS?

Can’t you bring it to a place that will swap it for a full tank? I bought a 20# tank on eBay and just traded it, so it was the gas shop’s problem if it wouldn’t pass a test.
