First time cider

How does this work? I’ve been brewing beer for a long time, but never delved into the world of cider. I would like to try this this fall. Can I simply buy some local cider, pitch some yeast and be done with it? Forgive my ignorance, but I’d like to get some more info…

It’s as easy as that.

For the most part.
But, it can be as difficult as you want it to be. You can really produce some world class ciders by delving into blending apples, playing with temps, staggering nutrient feedings, choosing a strain of yeast that will produce the desired profile, etc.

Some cider makers let the yeast already in the cider do the job. If your cider jug says put in fridge after opening it will ferment as is. This is hit or miss flavor wise and if it turns out good you may not be able to repeat it.
