In terms of assembly, I was very happy with how everything came together given my carpentry skills. I finished assembly last Sunday, but I still can’t keep the lid closed because of the overwhelming chemical smell from the silicone or the rubber spray I used on one of the components (or both). Very annoyed.
It’s not terribly creative, but here are some pics of the finished product (click the thumbs for a larger image):
Thanks guys. It was a fun project. I learned a few things along the way.
I’ve had a fan on it the last couple days. I think last night made the biggest difference, since I turned a box fan to blow vertically down directly into the unit, instead of trying to blow out from one side to the other. One more day might make a difference, but I hate the idea of going into Friday night with room temp kegs!
I required a fully stainless stout faucet to go with my five SS Perlicks. There aren’t a lot of them out there. I ended up getting this one for what I think is a pretty reasonable price:
I had not even considered activated charcoal. Does it work more effectively than baking soda (which I tried and I don’t think it made a bit of difference)? If so, I might pick some up just to pick up any residuals.
Edit: where do you buy activated charcoal that isn’t in a capsule form?

Damn! After a night with the lid closed, the odor built back up. Oh well, I’ve got cold beer and am pouring tonight. I guess, worst case the liquid tubing picks up some order and I have to replace it. At least I’ve got 68 ft. more on hand.
I found some activated charcoal at Petsmart in the aquarium section.
I thought I would post an update, because I know you all are losing sleep over this …
I dumped the whole container of activated carbon (~450 grams I think) into a 1 gallon paint strainer bag and suspended it from my one unused shank. It has definitely made a difference (thanks for the idea Stealth), but the odor is still there. I have not had any pours since Sunday, but after three days I had not detected any off-flavor from the odor penetrating my liquid lines. Will see in a couple days if that’s still the case.
I’ve just added a 3 way manifold, so I can serve at two different pressures using two my gauge regulator, or so I can run one CO2 and one beer gas after I get nitro equipment.
