Economy Vs. Taprite Regulator

Is there any real difference between economy and taprite regulators? I haven’t been able to find anything online.

I have 2 kegerators and have both regulators. Both regulators have worked ok for me but the taprite operates smoother when adjusting the pressure. Does this make a difference in service life? I don’t know till one stops operating.

Regardless of the brand, I will only buy the ones with the larger handwheel and never the screwdriver slot. I have two and love them. The one for the kegerator that never changes, but the one I use for racking and force-carb gets a workout that would be difficult at best with a screwdriver. Most of these are called the “deluxe model” or whatever premium name of whatever brand, just get them and be happy. Internal functions all the same and never had any issues in over 9 years with any of them, even the cheapest ones.

A small but very nice feature on the taprite regulators is that they have a built in o-ring, so you don’t have to mess with keeping gaskets on hand for each time that you remove and reinstall the regulator.

Can the Taprite regulators internals be rebuilt?

I used a micro matic economy regulator for 2 years, when all of a sudden a tank drained overnight. After spraying the entire system with soapy water, the little weep hole on the regular began to blow bubbles.

I took it apart and cleaned it to no avail.

The cost of the emptied keg was more than the difference in the economy and premium regulator…

My Ford had a flat tire last week. I will never by anything but a Mercedes after that POS.

Dean makes a good point on the hand wheel adjustment. I have a couple “screwdriver” models I picked up form Ebay. Not as convenient when needing to bump the pressures up to seal keg.
