Dumb question

Just started my first batch, and aim moving to fermentation
Do I leave the fermentation lock capped or uncapped after putting in some water?
Thanks
Mike

You’re going to want to seal that up. Be sure to use a bubbler/air lock so gas can escape, but not get in.

I have the bubbler on , but it came with a cap
Does this stay on or off

Doesn’t matter.

If you are using a 3 piece air lock, over filling it will cause the center piece to hit the lid.

If using the S-lock, no concerns.

Using the plastic s type

Cap it. But really it’s just a dust cover, not a critical part. If you get minor blow-off, the spew can attract bugs and the cap will keep them out until you get it clean.

Or the cap creates more issues if a blow off occurs.
