Cider tastes like rubber?

So I just got done with my first batch of cider and it smells like rubber and tastes off. Could not find any thing that matched right in how to brew.

1 gal mussel man apple cider from walmart.
with wyeast cider yeast

1gal glass jug with #6 rubber stopper w/ bubbler airlock on kitchen counter.

bottled in to 10 glass bottles, still and dry.

Thanks, and cheers

How long was it allowed to set on the lees?

Did you taste the cider before fermenting it?

about a month on the leeds. yep had some before fermentation tasted great. was going to buy some more just to drink. the bottle of hard cider was undrinkable actually had to pore it out.

Doesn’t the musselmans cider contain preservatives?
More than likely stressed yeast and the formation of hydrogen disulfide or mercaptans.

just looked at the bottle only contains apple cider and ascorbic acid pasturized

Ive actually had a similar experience in a half assed attempt at cider from store bought juice. It smelled of rubber stopper. I attributed it to poor nutrition and dumped it.

As mentioned in my earlier post rubber flavors can often times be traced back to stressed yeast and the formation of hydrogen disulfide or mercaptans.

ok Thanks for the help. It is undrinkable and will be dumped and I will have another go at it.
