CaraPils in recipe

My latest brew called for 5oz of CaraPils. I didn’t have any in my store so just dropped. Any one think it will make a difference? It’s a NEIPA with 12lbs of base grain

Isn’t that a caramel shade of Pilsner malt? Perhaps only color. In that big a grainbill, i doubt there’d be a difference…

no its a crystal malt of about 10L which imparts body but no color or flavor. But I agree 5oz shouldn’t make or break it

I wouldn’t hesitate leaving out 5oz in a NEIPA. Those grain bills usually use a large portion of wheat and/or oats. Even if not, it’s 2.5% of your base grain. I’m surprised it’s even in there.

it called for a lb of oat malt which I’ve never used a bit of flaked oars and honey malt as well

I’ve said hundreds of times so I’ll say it here now:

CaraPils is worthless.

well if it leaves no flavor and no color I guess I will have to agree. Although I could see maybe using it in a partial mash light lager.

well before we talked I ordered some CaraPils so I have some to use up. I’ll make this recipe again an use it this time to see a difference maybe I can get it to finish a bit higher. This recipe went down to .010 was looking for .016

of course I can mash at a higher temp. The recipe called for 154F in hindsight I should have realized that.
