I just watched beer wars and it was quite informative. So it makes me wonder, are there any other beer movies out there? If anyone knows of any, please let me know.
I hear Beer Fest is a good authentic take on Octoberfest.
Seriously though I don’t really know of any other documentaries about beer out there. How Beer Saved the World is a Discovery Chanel documentary (I think???) but I found it to be a bit over the top. They made a lot of statement like “beer built the pyramids” because the Egyptians gave the builders, who I’m assuming were slaves in the first place, beer so therefor beer built the pyramids. I don’t know, it was interesting but something rubbed me the wrong way about it and I had to shut it off and that’s coming from a guy who needs to see everything through till the end on TV. It just made it sound like beer was the light guiding man kind through the ages to were we are now and there was nothing else important that ever happened.
I agree.
Actually, in all honesty, I felt kind of the same about “Beer Wars”…it seemed to be a bit much to me as well.
But if a BMC drinker happens on flicks like these, and if perhaps they initiate enough curiosity to check out the better beer options available these days, it’s all good.
yeah way over the top for me to.
These documentaries never throw in all the true facts or look at other aspects, they are usually pick a big major company and rag on em Beer Wars kind of reminded me of Super size me, a really bad documentary about mcd’s
this is probably in my top five of favorite movies. But i love that type of comedy
While I certainly agree with the sentiment of it being a bit over the top, I got the impression that was the intent. It seemed to be pretty “tongue in cheek” throughout, more of a fun look at beer’s place in history rather than a serious documentary. That said I didn’t find it to be overly entertaining, not bad but not real memorable either. I haven’t seen Beer Wars, seems to get mixed reviews from what I’ve seen(mostly on the NB forum), I’ll have to check that out at some point.

This is pretty much my take on Beer-Wars, seemed like a “docu-drama” with skewed facts and scenarios.

yep +1000
and the likes of super size me, food inc, at the countless other food ones, walmart bashing ones… etc.
Hooper had a great scene.
It is a few years old now, but I always liked “American Beer”
Far from a documentary, but I remember having a more than few beers and more than a few laughs while watching Strange Brew.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strange_BrewSee if you can find “The Outdoorsmen”.
It’s a bunch of guys out in the woods doing some heavy duty physical challanges that includes drinking a lot of beer.

There’s a documentary on Hulu called “Beertickers” or something like that about guys in England who go to beer festivals to taste beers and check them off a “life list” like birdwatchers. This one guy in the movie brings bottles with him so he doesn’t have to drink all the beers at the festivals-- he brings them home with him (which I guess you can do at beer festivals over there.)
There is “James and Oz drinks to Britain”, it is a tv series from BBC on wine, cider, beer, and other alcoholic beverages.
There is a documentary on British “beer ticking” that is somewhat interesting. Beer tickers try to sample as many beers as possible and keep records of how many different beers they have tasted. Needless to say they go to great lengths to find new brands to try. I think it was called “Beer Tickers”, but I could be wrong.
It detailed the travels of a few of the biggest beer tickers in the UK.
Oops, I see that someone beat me to the post. Sorry about that!
brings bottles to bottle a few ounces and then lugs them around? wow
