Hopefully a quick question: At what point or points should someone use a thicker bottle? I hear about using champagne bottles and Belgian brews needing them but what are the determining factors for using them?
Higher CO2 levels is the only reason you would “need” to use them.
If you wanted to reduce the number of bottles you fill you can use them also.
Remember to match how much you will drink with the size of the bottle.
Thank you, okay what would be the purpose of higher carbonation or would this just occur in some brews as opposed to others?
Belgian Ales, German Wheat beer and fruit lambics are beers that you will find to be carbonated at higher levels. They don’t have to be.
You could carbonate anything at a higher level.
Sturdy bottles should hold 3v of carbonation or a little more. You should be able to see the ones you don’t want to use.
