Basics for mead making

Looking to make a batch of mead. Planning 1 gallon batch. 3 lbs of honey and some Lalvin D47 yeast.

What kind of nutrients should I be using? DAP and some fermaid k? Should I use go ferm to rehydrate yeast? Should I use the half the packet? Thinking about using a 1 gallon glass jug but how important is degassing? Seems like it may be easier in a 2 gallon bucket. No worry about oxidation or is it only done in the first couple days of active fermentation?

Thanks!

Well if you’re using fruit start it in the bucket and after a few days rack it to the jug. Then after a month rack it again adding yeast nutrient at every rack. I’ve used a half package of yeast and it’s plenty. I’ve used lavlin D47 with good results. Also have used Cote de Blanc. I use fermax nutrient about 1/4 tsp each rack

make more than a 1 gallon batch or plan to make a subsequent batch. I think you cannot learn enough by drinking a single gallon as it ages.
