All Grain Brewing

Hi all. I am pretty new to this hobby. Two kits, Slobber and Hef, under my belt. Slobber is great. Hef being bottled this weekend after three weeks in primary. Smells great. Hope it tastes as good. If there is one thing I have learned so far is that patience is key. I have been rewarded with a very good first batch. Doing a partial mash Oatmeal Stout next.

I was thinking of trying to get into all grain brewing this summer. However, I have always been one to learn better if I watch how something is done rather than reading how to do it. Before I even bought my brew kit, I watched videos for a month. I find it helps a lot to see how something is done then trying to do it. I live in the Chicago area and was wondering if there are any classes or maybe even any all grain brewers in the area that would be willing to show someone how its done. I know its asking a lot, but before I go out and buy all of the equipment needed, I would like to go through an all grain brew and see how the process works. I would buy all of the ingredients if need be. Although I have watched videos about how to do an all grain brew, something is not clicking.

Thanks as always for the info.

See if you can find a local home brew shop that offers classes. That would be a VERY good way to learn. Or maybe you can find a local home brew club. Another tremendous resource.

AHA really needs to update that list. Several in my area are no longer in existence or have outdated contact details.
