Add rum to Rum Runner Stout

Getting ready to start the Rum Runner Stout kit from NB, the 1 gallon batch. The recipe doesn’t say to add rum but I’m thinking that sounds good. Any recommendations - how much, when to add, which brand? Or should I just drink the rum?

Have you made this kit before? I personally don’t like to add extras to a recipe without knowing what the base recipe produces. Ie; you can’t know where you’re going without knowing where you’ve been. Having said that, anything from 1/3 to 2/3 cup per gallon. Pick a brand you enjoy. You could also do a small scale test at bottling; add a teaspoon at a time to a bottle until it tastes right. Or just drink the rum.

We recently bottled Dennys BVIP and used 1.75 cups of bourbon for 5 gallons. That’s a little over 1/3 cup per gallon.

I think the flavor is perfect. Much more and it would be too boozy IMO.
