When are hops dry?

Just started harvesting my hops and drying them with a box fan and some furnace air filters. It has been 24hrs and the hops seem pretty dry, but how do you tell when they are dry enough to wrap and freeze?

When they are light as a feather, sort of crispy, and falling apart, they are dry. Before that, they are less than dry.

LOL! Thanks.

I think the most accurate way to tell is by loss in weight. I don’t remember the exact number you want to shoot for, but when my hops feel right they are roughly 20-25% of what they weighed prior to drying.

erock is right. If you weigh your hops before drying, you’ll find that in most cases your dried hops are roughly 20-22% of the original wet weight.
