There was a method of doing this in an old Zymurgy or BYO that I tried along with my homebrew club to test the idea. We did homegrown samples of known varieties and compared them with commercially-produced hops of the same variety of known %AA. Turns out to be a not-so good method of estimating %AA. I have the details somewhere if anyone wants them.
