Lake Water

probably any town with a water tower for a 100 miles probably uses this water. I’m sure any treatment you do to it would be more than what those towns do to it.

ahhhh a week on Superior. me envy u

The thought of using Lake Superior’s water for brewing is cool. It is after all my lake I just let everyone enjoy it.
Why not stop in one of the local towns and buy some water, probably not locally bottled but would squelch any chemical concerns.
But… If you choose to use carbon filter the lake water can you get away from shore to get debris free water. Sometimes insect hatches can mass close to shore. If you used a new carbon filter and housing (see link) with tubing to a cooler a gravity setup could be done. A pre-filter (straining bag) may be wise. I bet it wouldn’t take too long to get the amount you need.

btw: personally, for 1 batch, i’d go for it even without carbon filtering

You could go to a safe tap for campers and fill a couple of these.

If it’s local it’s probably sourced from Superior, but it has gone through the process to make it potable. It is a cool idea to go straight from the lake, the chemicals would be what worry me the most.

Will your filter remove the iron too? If not, you can count on a bloody tasting beer. Ugh.

I’m planning to haul some filtered water back from a MT backpacking trip this summer up to some high lakes. I think I’ll just keep a Nalgene or something and dump it into the mash.
