Zythos APA

Never used this before. What do ya think of this grain bill for the hop. I thought about just doing a SMaSH to see what the hop is like but really need a APA.

I think you can simplify your hop additions immensely. I would suggest a 60 min, 10 min, and a 7 day dry hop addition for an APA. Has yielded me great results. Makes it easier on Siri too.

Enjoy.

Looks Tasty!

Hop additions between 60 and 10 are a waste in my opinion. Up your bittering addition to get the desired IBUs and then go with 10, 5 and KO additions. I don’t think I’d dryhop with zythos for an APA.

I’d also drop the biscuit, this is a really citrusy hop blend. If you can taste the biscuit in there (which I doubt), it’ll taste like an orange muffin.

I’ve used Zythos, its a nice blend. I’d probably use something closer to 6oz in the beer though: 1oz at 60, 1oz at 15, 1oz at 5 and 3oz dry hop. If you have that much, that is. My last two APAs have had 10oz of hops in them and they are great but not over the top.

I agree about dumping the biscuit, that amount is going to be insignificant. I’d maybe bump the crystal to 1lb or about 10% of the grist. The little extra sweetness will help balance the hop-centric nature of the beer, although it’ll still

I did a Zythos APA also and it turned out awesome. Here is my recipe. Also, never trust anyone that says no to dry hopping.

I don’t think I’d add at 5min and FO. I’d rather use 2oz as a dry hop. I’ve tried 1oz and don’t seem to get quite enough flavor, even with the high oil varieties.

I can personally vouch for this being a very tasty APA. Tons of hop flavor and aroma.
