My yeast starter had a lot of blow off last night. My question is, since this is a top fermenting ale yeast, did I loose a lot of the yeast cells I was trying to create? Still looks like the fermentation is still going strong but the blow off all seemed like yeast. I used 1/2 cup DME and 2 cups water.
Hard to calculate how much you may have lost. I’d maybe step it up one more time if I was concerned. Sounds like you need a bigger vessel. Better to over pitch than under pitch!
I use a 2 gal jug to make 1 gal starters via the shake/swirl method.
