Yeast for dead ringer

Hey I have some 1056 yeast harvested from a prior batch I washed and decanted it into thirds from the evil twin i brewed. do i need to make a starter or would a 3rd of a cake be plenty?
its about inch and a half thick in a mason jar.

The anticipated OG of a dead ringer is kinda high and you are using a (at least) second generation yeast. You might be fine without the starter, but why take the chance? If it was me, I’d be making a starter.

How old is it? If it’s less than 3 weeks, you’re fine pitching 1 jar. Over that, probably want at least a 1L starter.
