Wyeast 1968 Distinct Flavor

So… what is it? What adjectives would you use to describe it? It’s really noticeable and distinct, but my imagination fails at finding a suitable description for it.

I brewed a RIS before thanksgiving (only very recently kegged it) and was trying to figure out why it tasted kinda different than I expected. Then I had the british mild I brewed just a few weeks ago, with 1968. Sure enough, my brew records indicated 1968 for the RIS, too!

Fruity, Richer malt character than some other English strains, some diacetyl if you don’t let the beer finish out. I have used this yeast for many years, but have been experimenting with other strains for a couple of years. I’ll have to get back to you when I taste my new pale ale in a week or so.

when it’s right, I get cherry esters from it.
