Wl 0029

My question or inquirer is, has anyone used this yeast if so how was it for you. just want to get an idea about this yeast character and what to expect. thanks

I’ve never used it, but there are some reviews on the White Labs website.

It’s a good clean yeast, ferments reasonably quickly at cool or warm temperatures, and clears up pretty fast as compared with Wyeast 2565 – not a troublemaker like 2565. I have heard that some commercial breweries use it as their house yeast, since it is so versatile and clean. I like it, although other yeasts certainly have more character to them. WLP029 can be sort of… bland. Not bad at all, but nothing awesome about it either, IMHO.

thanks dave, I’m making my first kolsch with it and at 36 hrs in its now going pretty good. did not have much going on at 24 hrs and my temp was 62 so I moved it upstairs and it took off. now the inside temp is at 64. it may have been just a time issues and not temp. ether way, its all good.

I have a vial in the frig can’t wait to try. One of the local micros in Loveland, Co a few miles from here won a First at the GABF in Denver last year with an Alt. It’s a regular at their pub. It was so clean it was lager like, yet smooth. Could have drank it all day. What shocked me was he said it fermed at
67 deg. for the whole duration. I believe you could use that strain for a number of diff brews.
