Will this Freezer work with my Temp Controller?

I’m planning to get this freezer off Craigslist

Will it work with this common controller?

Freezer Electrical Specifications
Amps @ 120 Volts: 5.0
Connected Load (kW Rating) @ 120V: 0.60
Minimum Circuit Required (Amps): 15A

It says there’s a 10Amp max for the controller.

The freezer is only 5 amps at 120v…so why wouldn’t it work?

That controller looks very similar to the one in my signature line. If you open it up you will likely find the contact is actually rated for 15amps. Even though the casing says 10amp.

The temp controller should work. I’ve built and own 2 of those controllers. One operates an upright freezer and the other operates a dorm fridge.

OK – Thanks for the responses. I did go ahead and get the freezer (unfortunately only 3 ball lock kegs fit) – The “Minimum Circuit Required” figure threw me for a loop.

Nighthawk - hmm, that’s strange, so a 10 Amp draw isn’t the max for those controllers?

The 10 amp max is usually done because if a motor has a 10 amp running load it will have a 15 amp inrush on compressor start. This is a CYA type thing for the manufacture. Looks like you are good to go. Cheers
