Wheat Beer question

I,m doing my first all-grain wheat beer soon and i got some rice hulls to go with it.My question is do i have to factor in the amount of hulls for my strike water calculations ? I,m thinking yes…thanks

Actually, rice hulls don’t absorb that much water or heat. When I make a wheat beer mash, I only add a big handful for a 5 gallon batch. A handful weighs almost nothing anyway. I don’t account for it in my strike water calculations.

I would rinse them. Some come pre-rinsed others do not. I’ve been alarmed at the nasty black water that has been poured off after rinsing/soaking. Then, you also won’t have to worry about them absorbing strike water.
