Whats wrong with my yeast?

I pitched my yeast two days ago and nothing is happening in my oat meal stout.

Could be a few things have gone wrong or nothing has gone wrong. We will need a few details to help out.

What is the volume in your fermentor? What yeast did you pitch? What was the original gravity of your wort? What was the temperature of the wort when you pitched the yeast? What is the current temperature of the beer in the fermentor?

Are you fermenting in a bucket? Bucket lids often do not seal well allowing the CO2 produced during fermentation to escape around the lid rather than through the air lock.

Yes I am fermenting in a bucket. The original gravity was 1.034
the temp of the beer is 72’

Can I add more yeast?

What yeast did you pitch? 72°F may be on the warm side for some yeasts, but not to the point it will harm the yeast or stop a fermentation. To warm of a fermentation can produce off flavors. Fermentation will also go faster in a warm wort.

Have you looked at the beer for signs of a krausen forming?

You can lift the lid to look or pull the airlock and look down into the bucket. Sanitize the lid or area of the airlock before you do this. You can also hold a flashlight to the opposite side of the bucket to look for evidence of a krausen on top of the beer.

It is also possible the fermentation is near completion if the CO2 had been escaping around the rim of the bucket.

I would check for the presence of a krausen, or the remnants of a krausen ring stuck to the inside of the bucket.
