What would you call this...?

I made a “small” beer from the final runnings of NB’s basic Barleywine kit.

4 or 5 weeks primary, 3 weeks bottle or so, and I opened one last night. It’s downright decent.

The wort was 1.040

  • 2/3 oz Magnum at 60 minutes
  • 1/4 oz Magnum at 15 minutes
-1/2 oz cascade at 15 minutes.

It’s fairly malty…toasty, with a wash of hop flavor toward the end of the swallow and after.

It was about a 3 gallon batch.

What would you call this beer? Not what goofy name would you give to it…but what style?

Without seeing the grain bill for the barley wine it is hard to tell.

But depending on that, either an american amber or american pale ale.

After looking at the original grainbill, I would say american pale ale all the way. And I am sure it did have a good toasty character with the maris otter base malt.
