I have a nice Stainless Steel 22-Quart Covered Stockpot I use for my brew kettle. I’m thinking of drilling a hole in it and installing a brewmometer. I use an ice bath to cool my wort, so this thermometer will get submerged into ice cold water after being on the stove. The product says it’s water-tight, so I’m thinking it should work.
Anyone one have experience with this? Can this thermometer be submerged in water without ruining it?
A friend has one of those installed on their kettle and had a boil over which exposed the heated glass to water and cracked it. Still works, just cracked. I would imagine the same thing would happen if you dunk it in ice cold water.
the adjustment screw on the back I don’t believe to be watertight for submersion purposes.
Thanks guys, maybe I’ll have to buy a wort chiller also and forget the ice bath.
It will probably improve your beer too by more rapid chilling!
