Hello,
I’m adding a wet bar in the basement and would like to have beer taps on the back wall with the cooler on the other side of the wall (unfinished area of the basement). From what I am reading, it seems that I might have to use a glycol system to keep the beer lines cold between the cooler, thru the wall, and to the taps.
Is it possible to take a Kegerator that has a tower and route a PVC pipe from the kegerator tower opening thru the wall and to the tap manifold to keep the lines cold? It would have to be insulated and sealed.
Any ideas or advise?
Thanks
Don C.
At one point I planned on doing something like this. I was basically going to make a collar for the freezer and make a “loop” to a box mounted on the back of the wall. All would be insulated well. The shanks would mount through the wall into the box and beverage line would run through the pvc to the shanks. Mounted one end of the pvc loop would be a small dc computer fan to pull cold air through the loop and keep everything cold
Does that make any sense?
You could set up something similar with your kegerator
yep, makes sense. I didn’t think about the fan but I believe it would be needed to move the cold air to the shanks.
How long are these lines going to be?
If you are just going from your freezer through a wall very little of the beer you pour will be sitting in the line. And the thickness of liquid line would insulate relatively well on its own.
Originally I had planned a fairly long route to get from my freezer to my bar, where I was planning to use pipe isulation around my tubing. But instead I just moved my freezer to the room next door and went through the wall as you plan on doing.
If you leave the lines full overnight, I recomend pouring the first ounce of the day off. Other than that I would not worry at all. Your beer will be cold - it is in the freezer.
