Vorlauf off flavors?

I am watching The new Brewing TV episode with Palmer and I got wondering about my vorlauf method. I sometimes get off flavors but it seems mostly with lighter beers and I dont know for sure but i think its bandaid but it may not be that at all. Anyway, I use the same method every time and I’m wondering if I’m not vorlaufing enough. I usually max out my keg with the mash so I never do a mash out. At the end of the mash I drain out about 3/8 of a gallon then run it into the kettle. I pour the 3/8 gal back in onto a piece of tin foil with holes in it sitting on top of the mash. Is this enough of a vorlauf?

Just vorlauf until there are no chunks left.
Some vorlauf until brilliantly clear.

Try a little slower run off - like 1/3 to half open ball valve position - it will likely give you a pretty clear run off after a quart or two.
