Vanilla Extract

I am making a pumpkin ale with spices from a Pumpkick clone recipe. One of the ingredients is vanilla. A tincture would be fine, but I don’t have any beans. For 5 gallons, 2 beans in 4 oz are recommended. If I use vanilla extract how much would you use for 5 gallons? I was planning on using 2 ounces.

I’ve read different things, but the common average I’ve seen is about 2 Tbs, although for cooking 1 tsp is equal to one bean.

I have seen 2tsp and 3 equal to one bean. The problem is how big are the beans :smiley: Vanilla isn’t an overpowering spice so unless you really go overboard I don’t think it will be a problem. Use real vanilla extract if you can, not the imitation crap.
